January 2007: Soapstar Superstars - "I've no regrets"

Despite being disappointed about leaving Soapstar Superstar (and who wouldn’t?) Matt says he has no regrets about his time on the show – not even regarding those foppish outfits of his!

"I’m happy about how I did and I’m proud about what I did out there," he says looking back at his performances of Bad Day and Don’t Stop Me Now, both of which had the audience rocking.

"I would have had regrets if I’d gone out on a low, and not done myself justice," he said - but luckily the drama-loving soapstar had a suitably theatrical exit.

"The whole controversy about me and Leon being in the bottom two made for good telly, it was exciting," he grins. "I think there’s going to be more shocks throughout the week. But that’s good, it stirs things up a bit!"

One thing that certainly stirred the judges up was Matthew's unusual costume choices. From his skinny ties right down to his shockingly tight pants, the boy was nothing if not individual!

"I didn’t want to go on stage wearing something that I’d wear every day," laughs Matthew. "I think the stylist saw me as a bit of a clothes horse, and thought he would have a play to see what he could get away with.

"I knew I’d get some funny comments. But I thought, if I can’t do it on stage where can I do it?" It’s a fair point – what a shame we won’t see what other dapper outfits the jaunty gent had hanging backstage!
